Observation Narrative ? Plot location: ca. 70 meters W of Rt. 614 at a point ca. 1.0 km S of jct. with Rt. 636. Plot is located in the same stand as plots ABSF007 and ABSF011, all located on a gentle upland divide between two Piedmont stream valleys. Vegetation is a medium-age forest of Quercus alba, Quercus coccinea, Quercus velutina, and Carya spp., with Nyssa sylvatica, Acer rubrum, and Cornus florida attaining the highest stem densities and cover in the understory. Vaccinium pallidum contributes the largest cover to a rather sparse herb layer. These plots capture what appears to be a buffer of older forest left by the road when adjacent parts of the stand were recently logged.
